Tureens are often sold as 'unlidded tureens' or 'unlidded vegetable dishes' etc. This is a misnomer. A tureen, almost without exception, should have both a lid with a recess for a ladle handle and a base. Lids and ladles are often broken and discarded, however, as they are more fragile due to the handles. We have some interesting reglued lids in out collection! Needless to say we prefer a complete set but we are realists.
